The Invitational Tournament is organised and by the Singapore Cricket Club to coincide with the Singapore Rugby Sevens, the Tournament was as much fun as ever.

We set off in high sprits, sprits being the operative word. Gloria Warbanoff, defender, and also gold card holder, lead some of the team into the Singapore Airlines Lounge where they were plied with complementary drinks. Was this a sign of things to come?

We landed in Singapore just after 8.30pm and set out to discover the sights of Orchard Road, needless to say, we visited each venue where we were welcomed with liquid refreshments, but all of us being self respecting netball players, were all in bed by midnight.

Keen and rearing to go, we were up at “the crack of dawn”, and downed a hearty breakfast. We set off for the Cricket Club at around 8am. There were several teams from Singapore, also KL, Hong Kong and of course, Bangkok. The games began at 9pm. The teams were split into two divisions and we were placed in division A. We played with much enthusiasm and enjoyment and won the playoff against one of the Singapore teams. The Hong Kong Cricket Club won the Tournament and a great day of netball was rounded-off by a substantial lunch, followed by the trophy presentation.

We then were on a mission to visit every shop on Orchard Road, which I think one of two of us managed. A days netball, and shopping was followed by and evening of socialising, and as it was Halloween, hence, it was an incredibly interesting evening in the bars located on Mohammed Sultan Road.

The Singapore Cricket Club Invitational Tournament is held every year at the end of October. It’s an enjoyable tour and if you wish to participate, look out for information in early September. Everyone is welcome individuals or whole teams.
